day 1486: Trying A Door

“Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.

I’ve been speaking to university students this week.  What is sometimes surprising is how hard it is for them to recognize the doors of possibility that are all around them; that if they only were to give a little push, those doors would open up a lifetime of opportunities for them.  But, because what is unknown is what is beyond the doors, it is almost like they ignore and pass by them by.  So, what can we do to not only see those doors, but to also give them a knock and a push? While it seems trite to say, the opening of a door starts with just a “try”.  If we can at least be willing to try, then our attitudes may change.  Where a door that once was missed, or looked impossible to open, now becomes not only available but all together able to be pushed open.  Behind those doors are many possibilities.

Jesus sees each of us a door for Him to come into us and open up eternal life.  What is really cool is He isn’t saying we need to knock and push the door open, but that we are on the other side and all we have to do is open the door for Him.  He also doesn’t shove it open or barge into our lives.  We must open our door to Him and invite Him to cross the threshold.  But, the same is true. All we must do is be open to trying.  he will do the rest once we are willing to allow Him to enter our lives.  I was asked, “Why don’t you fear trying and potentially the failure that comes from trying?”  It’s an easy answer.  When our life door is swung open with Christ, there is nothing that can happen that will ever shut the security we have in having Him in our lives.  Our secure relationship with Christ opens all kinds of possibilities.
