day 2265: No Pokey In Poke

“Though I am the least deserving of all God’s people, he graciously gave me the privilege of telling the Gentiles about the endless treasures available to them in Christ.”

I can’t remember any food that I never heard of one day, being next day, the hottest food to eat.  But, that is what is happening to Poke.  Easy to make at home, even easier to make at a restaurant, Poke has become the rage. How did something so simple come to be what we all want and are willing to pay for well-beyond what it would cost to make at home?  Well, somethings can’t be explained…yet. There will be stories written and folklore told about how the Hawaiian food found itself into every urban area in the country.  But, until then, let’s consider that the simplicity and ease of explaining and accessing the food itself puts the consumer at ease (other than they don’t know how to pronounce the word – it’s po-kay).  What comes to mind when we think of going to a Sushi restaurant?  Maybe some fear of not knowing what to order?  Some weirdness about which fish should be eaten with other fish, or not?  Or just the fact that we don’t know any of those fish.  Whatever it is, the same people who don’t consider themselves sushi eaters are eating Poke and loving it.

We might wonder what kind of witness we are to be for God in our work and lives?  How about we replicate Poke, by being accessible, simple in who we are, easy to understand, and comfortable to be around?  It might be that someone we know wants to know more about who we follow, but it just seems there hasn’t been a comfortable way to ask about Jesus…yet.
