day 2264: A Favor, Please!

“Send me a sign of your favor. Then those who hate me will be put to shame, for you, O Lord, help and comfort me.”

We often hesitate to ask for a favor because we don’t want to impede on someone’s already established priorities or needs.  Or, maybe we don’t ask for a favor because we don’t want to be obligated to return the favor in the future.  Seldom does one company ask a favor from another company because there has to be some transfer of value, otherwise we aren’t watching our for ourselves, first. But, sometimes, a favor is what we all need.  It might be a reference, a referral, an introduction, an endorsement, advice, a loan, a listening ear, a companion, or a different way of thinking about a problem. Whatever it is, a favor can be just what we need to move us forward.  Receiving a favor is the gift of gifts.

David cries for the favor of God.  He looked for a sign of God’s favor to be not only visible to him, but to those who disliked him so that they would stand down. David saw God’s favor as the comfort and help that He needed.  When we give a favor, or show favor to those who are in need we are delivering just what God did for King David and what He did for each of us when He gave His Son for our sins.  So, we can surely show some favor to others today.
