day 1573: Persistence

“The judge ignored her for a while, but finally he said to himself, ‘I don’t fear God or care about people, but this woman is driving me crazy. I’m going to see that she gets justice, because she is wearing me out with her constant requests!’”

One of the most important shifts in my career was because I kept pestering other about an idea I had.  Finally, after about the hundredth time of hearing me talk about it, my boss said, “Okay, just stop and go do something about it.”  That was all I needed to hear.  That idea opened up a whole new set of opportunities for me.  And, it never would have happened had I not kept going back and back.  Sometimes, that is what we have to do if we want to get something done.  It’s not easy to push forward an idea or a new way of doing something and yes, sometimes, it is only persistence that makes it happen.

Why would Jesus give us this parable?  He gave it to us because He wants us to keep crying out to Him and being persistent in our prayers.  He promises to respond to the just and those who are deserving of justice.  Sometimes we cry out to God and then wonder if He hears us or not.  And that wonder is worse when we feel like we have been wronged and anxiously wonder will anything get righted?  Well, we have His promise and we should be sure that our faith never waivers from this promise.
