day 1572: Sense Of Urgency

“Now concerning how and when all this will happen, dear brothers and sisters, we don’t really need to write you. For you know quite well that the day of the Lord’s return will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night. When people are saying, “Everything is peaceful and secure,”…”

When we think that we are spending too much time on the things that seems petty, political or trivial, we might not have the focus in the right place, or it might be that we are moving too slow.  When we slow down and start to feel that we have a little extra time on our hands, then it is then when we start to see the extraneous slip through the door.  So, when we start to look around and wonder where all this time is being spent on things that don’t seem so important, then one thing that can be done is to speed up.  Yes, if we pick up the speed, shorten the time for the deadlines, push ourselves to move faster, then the stuff that is extra can get squeezed out and the important can rise back to the top and into focus.  There are many ways to bring the focus to the right place, but by just reestablishing a sense of urgency, we can rid the wasted time and effort.

If we think that we have until tomorrow to do what we know we need to do, or to change, or to get ourselves right, then think again.  While God does everything in His own time, He has been clear that He will return when we least expect it and that there really isn’t that much time left.  Sure, there is all likelihood that He will not return in our lifetime, but what He is saying to us is don’t waste time, don’t lose the moments that are given to us and to keep a sense of urgency in our spiritual growth and development.  God gives us each the same amount of time, but we each make our decisions on how we spend it and invest our time. There may be something today that is being put off, delayed or waited on for action to be taken.  And, we know that God wants us to move, so let’s embrace a sense of urgency to expand the Kingdom and spread the Gospel.
