day 1568: Shine A Light On It!

“I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called–his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.”

Yesterday I wrote of what  we can expect when we confound the truth; we will be exposed.  The business news would have less to write about if this wasn’t the case.  We are still trying to figure out ignition switches, oil spills and pipeline bursts, and who knew what, when.  But, we can also change the story by shining the light on the good that is being done within a company or organization.  I was meeting yesterday with a head of HR for a big technology company who runs buses for their employees all over the Bay Area.  This company is one of the brave ones who puts their logo and name on the side of the bus.  Because they don’t hide who they are, they win accolades for their employee amenities, versus those who run their buses as anonymous vehicles, who get chastised for overtaking neighborhoods, causing street congestion, etc. If we have the courage to shine the light on the good things, then we can remove some of the darkness that comes from people only seeing and hearing the bad.

Paul prays for our hearts to be flooded with light.  I can almost imagine what that feeling is like.  I love the sunlight and I know that when our hearts are flooded with light that we feel the warmth of the “Son” and the uplifting feeling that comes with being in the light.  Are our hearts flooded with light or do we feel like they are lost in darkness?  As we head into this long weekend, let’s take some time to consider what we are letting into our hearts and what we are keeping out?  What we want is to let shine brightly the light of God in and out of us.
