day 2296: #FakeNews Spillover

“Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth.”

Let’s get ready.  The “#FakeNews” rhetoric in politics is going to have a spillover into business and the rest of our culture.  It is just a matter of time before our companies and organizations are threatened by a #FakeNews story and we will need to combat the story.  I’m not a PR expert, but I was struck by University of Rhode Island’s, Scott Kushner’s breakdown of what is “#FakeNews so that we can first diagnose and identify what we are confronting and then we can begin to work against what we know.  #FakeNews comes in these forms:

  • Disinformation
  • Propaganda
  • Hoaxes
  • Satire/Parody
  • Inaccuracies in Journalism

It’s up to us to figure out which it is. If it is one or none of the above, regardless, we can now deal with what we have to confront.

Today, we will be confronted with trying to decide what is #FakeNews and what is not. When we are confused.  When we are disillusioned.  When we are lost.  It is then that we have to return to what we know is always true. God’s Word grounds us.  God’s Word roots us in truth.  God’s Word clarifies the world around us.  God’s Word gives us the filter to know right from wrong.  So, if we get caught up with anything that is not the truth, then let’s be sure we step back and pull what we see and hear and how it has gotten to us, through the filter of God’s lessons that come from His Word.
