day 1994: Game Theory

“And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.”

One of my portfolio companies ran their new investment presentation deck past me.  On one of the pages they explain that game Theory can be used to explain the impact of their service.  They reference it this way:

(P * B) + D > C

P = Probability of effect of effort.   B = Perceived benefit of the change/effort.  D = Sense of duty one feels by taking the action.  C = Perceived cost of the action.

It’s not a bad way to look at any change or improvement effort or initiative we have in front of us.

God doesn’t play games with us and nothing about Him is theory.  He is clear with us that He is pleased with our faith in Him.  It is the world that plays games and tries to trick us into thinking that it is our works, or our standing, or our efforts that make the difference.  He just wants us to seek Him with all our hearts and minds, and that is undeniably totally worth all that we have.
