day 1578: Bug Bounties

“Indeed, we all make many mistakes….”

Would you pay someone to break what you make? Imagine that you manufactured and distributed chandeliers and whenever someone could prove to you that they broke one, they got paid. That’s a little hard to imagine, but it is what Google is doing.  They pay hackers to find bugs and holes in their software and when someone does, they pay them.  And those that can cause some real damage through their hacking can make some real money. They do this because their service is expected to not fail and if it does, there are huge ramifications.  Imagine one day of life without Google. It’s not the end of the world, but just with the android platform down there would be all kinds of trouble.  So, maybe we should think about paying people to find the flaws in our products and services, test the weaknesses of our claims, push on our standards and keep us always on our toes.

Aren’t we so glad that God doesn’t send His angels to count how many times we fail and break?  If He did, then we would live in a state of defeat and literally, disrepair.  But, He doesn’t do that and instead He gives us a way to auto-repair ourselves and be continuously forgiven and started anew. It is His grace and mercy that allows us to keep coming back.  So, don’t live like God is counting the bugs and the problems, but live in His promise of fulfilled, abundant and bountiful life in all that we do, work, home and play.
