Rusty Rueff, author of purposed worKING. Rusty Rueff is the former Chairman Emeritus of The GRAMMY Foundation in Los Angeles. He most recently completed the successful 16 month leadership role as Coordinating National Co-Chair for Technology for Obama (T4O) for the reelection of President Obama and ten-years of Board service and President of the Board of Trustees of the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco. Corporately, most recently Rueff was the Chief Executive Officer at SNOCAP, Inc. until the acquisition of the company by imeem, Inc. in April 2008. Before joining SNOCAP in 2005, he was Executive Vice President of Human Resources at Electronic Arts (EA) from 1998 until 2005. He was also with the PepsiCo companies for more than ten years, with the Pratt & Whitney division of United Technologies for two years, and in commercial radio as an on-air personality for six years. Rusty holds an M.S. in counseling and a B.A. in radio and television from Purdue University. In 2003 he was named a distinguished Purdue alumnus, and he and his wife, Patti, are the named benefactors of Purdue’s Patti and Rusty Rueff School of Visual and Performing Arts. He is a corporate director of Glassdoor.com and runcoach. He is the co-founder and Executive Committee Member of T4A.org, serves on the Founding Circle of The Centrist Project and a founding Board Member of The GRAMMY Music Education Coalition. He is also the co-author of the book Talent Force: A New Manifesto for the Human Side of Business. Rusty and his wife, Patti, reside in Hillsborough, CA and Charlestown, R.I.

day 2792: Under The Cloud

“This was the regular pattern—at night the cloud that covered the Tabernacle had the appearance of fire. Whenever the cloud lifted from over the sacred tent, the people of Israel would break camp and follow it. And wherever the cloud settled, the people of Israel would set up camp.”

Who isn’t under the cloud right now?  I don’t mean the cloud of Covid-19, which is there too, I mean the Cloud as in those multitudes of servers owned by Amazon, Google and others, who have us well-covered and well-served. You know companies were providing off-premise servers long before we called it the “Cloud”, but once Amazon got in the business with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and made the service accessible to anyone, the Cloud was created.  Today, we couldn’t live without it and it has allowed for what I would say is the greatest amount of technological productivity beyond the creation of the personal computer.  Sometimes, the greatest advancements aren’t even thought of as such, they just show up and so quickly become the way we do things that it seems they were always there.  Think Zoom, right now.

God gave the Israelites a cloud for them to follow so that they would know where to next move the Tabernacle. They watched the cloud and it told them when to stay and when to go.  It provided signals from God and it was obvious day and night that God was present.  But even then, the Israelites questioned Moses, Aaron and thus God on their fate.  How could they have become so oblivious when God was right in above them, visually?  Well, it is like we are just as oblivious to what God is doing right in front of us at all times.  We hide under our own cloud when God is asking us to come out and shine for Him.  I’m very convinced that more and more people will come to Christ during this time we are in.  We seek when we are anxious, fearful or unsure of the future.  I’m also sure that there are moments coming for each of us to shine through the cloud and be there for others who want step into the “Sonshine” too.
