day 2829: Which Is It?

“Then he said, “Do you understand what I have done to you? You address me as ‘Teacher’ and ‘Master,’ and rightly so. That is what I am. So if I, the Master and Teacher, washed your feet, you must now wash each other’s feet. I’ve laid down a pattern for you. What I’ve done, you do. I’m only pointing out the obvious.”

Amazing sometimes where you find words of wisdom and pearls to remember.  Yesterday, I was mindlessly listening to a NASCAR announcer (anything for sports at this point) in the background as I was doing some emails. Something happened and I heard the announcer say, “One time is an instance.  Two times is a coincidence.  Three times is a pattern.”  I thought on that and it carries well beyond the racetrack.  Right now, we are more aware than I can remember of the patterns around us that were there, but have been downplayed into instances and coincidences.  We have to ask ourselves, “Which is it” when we see or experience occurrences.  What might we see in our own businesses that have become and are  today patterns that need to be addressed and we’ve let go on for too long? Now might be one of the best times ever to take a really hard look around.

We are part of God’s pattern. He said that he laid down a pattern for His Apostles and we carry it today.  Jesus was not an instance. He was not a coincidence.  We don’t have to ask which one is He?

He is THE pattern to follow.
