day 2169: Inspections

“Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable.”

A long time ago, the then COO of Pizza Hut told me, “We can expect what we inspect and we should inspect what we expect.”  This has held up in every business situation I have been in since.  This week as I was at the Equinox gym I frequent a few times a week.  On this particular day there were maintenance workers crawling over the place fixing equipment, painting, and repairing little stuff like I had never seen before.  Already knowing the answer, I asked my Trainer what was going on?  He said, “The COO of the company is coming into town next week and then another senior guy from HQ is coming in the week after and we are getting ready.”  There you go, the big wigs are on their way to inspect what they expect.  It’s an easy lesson to learn and any time we feel jammed or stuck with something we want to move forward, just invite a couple of layers up in the management chain to come in for a review.  Overnight, people will step up to make sure the big bosses are pleased.

What can I tell you but for the same reason God doesn’t allow us to hide anything from Him.  He knows and inspects our hearts continuously, expecting the best from us.  And we can do the same by inspecting ourselves today for the areas in our lives where we know that God expects more from us.  For if we do this, then we can also expect that our inspection will open up our eyes to new areas where we can become better.
