day 2122: Why Do What You Do!

“Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else?”

The Rio Olympics are in the books. I must admit that they far exceeded my expectations and I wish I’d been able to go there live to see all of the amazing feats of accomplishment by our athletes.  Nike, whose brand presence was dominant ran this full-page ad in the New York Times on Monday morning after the closing ceremonies, recognizing Carmelo Anthony, the all-time Gold Medal Leader for USA Basketball.  The ad read like this:

“Gold medal don’t bring parades to New York.

They don’t take it easy on 32-year-old knees.

Or land that second max contract.

The don’t silence the critics.

Or put your face on a plaque in Springfield.

But some things you do, you don’t do for you.”

And so, we should be reminded that the best things that we do, we don’t do for ourselves, but do for others.

Isn’t that what God and Jesus did for us?
