day 2091: Who Knows Us?

“And the very hairs on your head are all numbered.”

Every predictive analytics company wants to say they know us better than anyone else. Why? Because they want to sell a marketer “us” as potential buyers.  But, these companies don’t really know us.  Who really knows us are the companies that can see what we are interested in, what we do and when we do it.  And yes, it is Google.  When Google combines our search history with Google calendar, they pretty much have us.  In fact, they know it and have added in their Google Goals app into the calendar to help us know ourselves like they know us.  Set a goal to get in shape and Google Goals will tell you, based on history and what they know of us, when is the best time of day for us to exercise.  They want that kind of influence over us, and they can get it as we continue to give them more and more information.  It’s hard to know what this means for the rest of us in business other than we should expect that Google advertising gets better and better and thus gets more and more expensive.

But who really knows us like no other?  Jesus says that the Father knows every hair on our head.  That’s about as good as it can get.  And how do we respond to this level of caring and intimacy?  If it was another person who showed us that much attention, we’d likely fall in love with them.  And so it should be, daily, with Jesus and our Father.  A daily remembering of how much He knows us, loves and cares for us so that we have no choice but to want to love him back.
