day 1932: Trickery

“Keep me from lying to myself;give me the privilege of knowing your instructions.”

The deal was coming down in a way that no one was really happy.  One side was holding up the deal with demands that were outrageous.  The other side felt like they had no choice and were going to have to accept the terms with no recourse.  And then in the paperwork, the lawyers left out one of the clauses that was causing the greatest conflict.  No one seemed to notice the oversight until the paperwork was signed and the deal completed.  No one had seen, or had someone and they just didn’t say anything?  Kind of like…who knew that the air was taken out of the footballs after they were checked?  Trickery doesn’t pay, but still we do it as if it will.  When we hear or see trickery, we need to call it out and put a stop to it immediately.  Anything short is condoning behavior that could be the gateway to worse.

There is no trickery in the kingdom of God.  We must always be the on the right side of the truth.  It doesn’t matter how small the act or the word.  If we allow ourselves to participate then we have slipped into the world and we need to allow the One greater that is living inside of us to overcome the trickery of the world.
