day 1935: Flawed

“For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. “

Its hard for companies to admit that they, or their products are flawed.  Most will not admit it until they have to do so because something breaks in mass or their consumers, customers or employees get so fed up that they make noise about it and the flaw becomes public.  A product recall, an oil spill, an unsubstantiated marketing claim, or an employee who embezzles or embarrasses the company, are all flaws that while we can never be proud to admit, we shouldn’t run away from.  Like the human being who makes a mistake and then owns up to that mistake with sincerity of the apology and behavior change to ensure it doesn’t happen again, we can see ourselves within their flaws and more readily accept their missteps.  But those who never own up, spend most of their time and energy covering up or back-pedaling, they never will win the acceptance or heart of understanding. That’s why it is okay to admit to being flawed.

As followers of Jesus we start from a place of accepting that we are flawed and have fallen short of God’s expectations.  When we truly believe, we are humbled by God’s mercy and grace that He provides.  Otherwise, we would be crushed with guilt and shame.  We can be humble in our flaws because we know that He will always accept us just as we are.  So, it’s going to be okay today…flaws and all.
