day 1475: Get To Home

“For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down (that is, when we die and leave this earthly body), we will have a house in heaven, an eternal body made for us by God himself and not by human hands.”

It was a fun weekend watching all of the well-deserved accolades being showered on retiring New York Yankee, Derek Jeter.  As he was interviewed many times, one could hear in his voice and choice of words how seriously he has taken the privilege to play for the New York Yankees for as long as he has and the success that come his way.  It was especially telling that for his final on field act in Yankee Stadium, he wanted to stand in the infield between second and home and take in one last look, the same and only vantage point that he has had his entire career.  Jeter said, “Baseball is a game about getting home and this spot is my home.”  We have seen one of the greatest of all time who played and lived up to his potential at all times and. A player who can retire knowing that while he played baseball he was the role model that we all desire to see in our sports heroes.  May he also feel the tip of the hat in his retirement.  He has well earned it in the way that he played and finished his career.

The things of the world, including this life that we live, will pass and one day we will also return to home; a home made specifically for each of us in heaven.  While we are here, let’s do all that we can to live out our lives in a way that reflects the love, grace and life of Jesus.  We are challenged to finish well, whatever is in front of us, let us do so as we ready for the day that we head for home.
