day 1901: How Much Trouble Is It Worth?

“Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace.”

Seth Godin wrote recently in his blog, “When you do the work that others can’t possibly imagine doing, you set yourself apart. Seeking out the things that are more trouble than most people think they’re worth is a powerful place to be. The hard part, of course, is actually doing something that appears to be far more trouble than it’s worth.”  In our everyday work we know those who are willing to take the trouble, and those who aren’t.  In the corporate world we can say the same about companies who are willing to take the trouble that comes with pushing the boundaries, trying something new, or just being thought of as crazy.  But, those are the people and the companies that we remember and they usually become the ones to which we aspire.  So, are we willing to take the trouble?  Is it worth enough to us to be known as set apart?

Jesus never said His path was a wide one.  I saw a Facebook post that said, “It’s a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven.  Guess which one is more crowded?” It takes knowing and believing that it’s worth the trouble to surrender ourselves totally and follow Jesus. But if we want to be one of His who are set apart, then the trouble is well worth that and more!
