day 1953: Things That Stick

“…And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Earlier this week I read a Seth Godin blog post where he was talking about technology improvements that stuck.  I had never considered it but think about the stickiness of one particular improvement that we all have experienced at one time or another; air-conditioning.  Have you ever heard of anyone installing air-conditioning and then having it removed?  Nope, neither have I.  In recent times I have been using the yardstick of DocuSign as the stickiness gauge for other technologies.  The first time I used an electronic signature, I was hooked and since then when someone sends me something to print, sign and send back either through scanning, emailing, snail-mailing or fax (what is that?), I groan and it creates an image for me of them being behind the times.  So, what does this mean for us as we go about creating products and services?  It means that we need to do our best to try and think forward with the goal of creating those things that our customers and consumers consider so sticky that once tried they never want to go back.  It’s really hard to do, but it can be done and with a series of improvements or upgrades the combination can come together that one would not want to ever turn back.

You probably know where I am going with this by now.  This morning God granted us this day, He gave us our daily bread, and He has bestowed upon us a set of gifts and talents to take into the world for Him. As we look at our calendars and project what the day will be, can we see places and areas where we need to shore up and gird ourselves with His strength and maybe even His grace, to make sure that we are sticking with His will for us.  God is the stickiest of anything as He will never reject or refuse us.  Sticking with God is all on us.
