day 2103: Turning Our Backs

“So the Lord changed his mind about the terrible disaster he had threatened to bring on his people.”

It’s not acceptable in business to turn our back on others, but we do it all the time and the sad part is that many times we know it.  While I was writing today, I took a break to eat lunch and as I ate my salad I listened as Patti was trying to get through to Anthem Health Insurance. She was on the phone for over 30 minutes, transferred 3 times and eventually just disconnected.  Why in the world would any company do that to a customer?  Because, they don’t care if they do so.  If they did, it wouldn’t be that way.  It was a prime example of turning their back on their customer.  So much happens at the front line that we don’t know about.  But, it is there where we face the customer that if we don’t pay attention, we could be turning our backs on people right now.

God certainly had all the evidence and reason needed to turn His back on the Israelites.  God calls Moses to the mountain and while Moses is gone the people turn their back on God and start making idols, etc in defiance to what God had asked them to do.  God got angry and it would have been more than justified for Him to have just moved on and found others who would follow Him, but He didn’t.  He did what He does with us today, He stuck with them and even though they, like we do daily, turned their back on God, He didn’t turn His back and He never will.  We need to live up to His example with others in our own lives who just because they don’t live up to our expectations, it doesn’t mean we can turn our backs on them.
