day 2781: LOV

“For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.

For a good while now we have validated the reach of a marketing or editorial effort by the metrics of social media.  Hardly anything today doesn’t have those calculations associated with the definition of success or failure.  Once it was TV and radio ratings (and it still is for some) and now it is all about Likes, Shares, Retweets, Streams, etc. There is nothing wrong with this, other than when we put all of our eggs in that basket and forget that there are other forms of gaining impressions that still matter.  If I was advising one of the Presidential races right now, I’d remind them that the form of the old-fashioned paper mailers might have the greatest effectiveness of all time, right now when we are all home, maybe bored and paying more attention to what comes in through the mailbox. Yes, digital media is important but we can get validation in others ways too.

I am concerned about a lot of people right now who are not getting their usual dose of social media validation.  They might be experiencing LOV (lack of validation) because they can’t post the pictures of their fancy meals and drinks, sunsets, trips, beaches, dress up outfits, etc. For a generation this has been their validation methodology and we know from studies that the brain starts to want to see those responses.  When they are not there, in sneaks doubt, anxiety, FOMO and even depression.  We know this is not God’s way so let’s stay attuned personally but also as much aware of those around us so that if they need real validation, we are there for them.  We know who they are, we just need to reach out.
