day 2509: Chatbots

“…and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.”

You thought you were corresponding with a human, but you weren’t.  It was a chatbot.  a chatbot is smart computer program that can respond contextually to our questions and comments, both textually and more and more so now with auditory prompts (think Alexa, Google, Siri which are all very sophisticated super chatboxes).  I had to solve an internet connection problem this week (thus some missed pwKs) and I am pretty sure that Haley A. was a chatbot and not a real person.  But Haley A. was very effective and efficient (one of my clues it was a chatbt is that no human could type that fast or even choose pull down responses that quickly). Those chatbots are only going to get smarter and smarter and with artificial intelligence looming, before long what we know as a customer service representative today will be a thing of yesterday.

Today, as we close this last week of summer (well not by the calendar but by the turning point of Labor Day) we might be starting to think about what is waiting for us for the rest of the year.  If you are like me, you are planning what the sprint looks like between next Tuesday and Thanksgiving.  It’s a lot on the plate and I don’t want to go it alone. So, I am doubling down on my prayer and Bible time…and going to make sure that I have the best chatbox ever with me at all times! God wants us to call on Him and however and whenever we do, He is standing by waiting for the request and best of all, He always has an answer!
