Rusty Rueff, author of purposed worKING. Rusty Rueff is the former Chairman Emeritus of The GRAMMY Foundation in Los Angeles. He most recently completed the successful 16 month leadership role as Coordinating National Co-Chair for Technology for Obama (T4O) for the reelection of President Obama and ten-years of Board service and President of the Board of Trustees of the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco. Corporately, most recently Rueff was the Chief Executive Officer at SNOCAP, Inc. until the acquisition of the company by imeem, Inc. in April 2008. Before joining SNOCAP in 2005, he was Executive Vice President of Human Resources at Electronic Arts (EA) from 1998 until 2005. He was also with the PepsiCo companies for more than ten years, with the Pratt & Whitney division of United Technologies for two years, and in commercial radio as an on-air personality for six years. Rusty holds an M.S. in counseling and a B.A. in radio and television from Purdue University. In 2003 he was named a distinguished Purdue alumnus, and he and his wife, Patti, are the named benefactors of Purdue’s Patti and Rusty Rueff School of Visual and Performing Arts. He is a corporate director of Glassdoor.com and runcoach. He is the co-founder and Executive Committee Member of T4A.org, serves on the Founding Circle of The Centrist Project and a founding Board Member of The GRAMMY Music Education Coalition. He is also the co-author of the book Talent Force: A New Manifesto for the Human Side of Business. Rusty and his wife, Patti, reside in Hillsborough, CA and Charlestown, R.I.

day 2327: Wazed And Confused

Starting today there is a community in New Jersey who have had to close up to 60 of their public streets to through traffic because the traffic direction app, Waze, has created havoc and confusion in their neighborhood.  I’ve experienced this as Waze has taken me through streets that I would never had traveled before.  This is not a big deal, unless you live on one of these streets and all of a sudden your street becomes the new thoroughfare of choice. It is an unintended consequence of technology and in 2018 there will be plenty of scrutiny on technology companies as they defend themselves against these types of personal “intrusions” that will experienced.  I’d go as far as to say that corporate America needs to be on the lookout for challenges and backlash from becoming favored by political and economic forces.  Everyone loves their favorite brands and companies, until they don’t. And when they don’t, things can turn ugly, fast.  It is why we need to do our best in this year to shore up those areas where we might feel our corporate reputations are most at risk.

If you are like me, you have taken time to reflect on this coming year and you have written your goals and objectives and even claimed a resolution or two as your own. These are good things to do and whether we complete what we set out to do, or not, we are better for trying.  As we contend to bring glory to God through our work and as we get better and better at doing this, it will get harder and harder for us as we feel challenged in our steadfastness and faithfulness.  It is just the nature of how things work for those who are striving to work in God’s purpose.  So, as we move into 2018, let us not feel liked we are either confused or being redirected into places and routes that everyone else is traveling, but instead be led by Him to where He desires us to go!
