day 3K118: Ghosting

“Understand, therefore, that the Lord your God is indeed God. He is the faithful God who keeps his covenant for a thousand generations and lavishes his unfailing love on those who love him and obey his commands.”

Over the past few years we’ve learned the term, “Ghosting” It’s a digital term that means to just not get back to someone or leave them hanging indefinitely.  It is happening now more than ever.  Job candidates just don’t show up and some don’t even report to work after they are hired and are never to be heard from again.  It seems really rude doesn’t it?  And in fact in a Indeed’s survey they did last year it showed that 46% of those seeking a job just didn’t show up for the interviews.  Well, before we go and put all the blame on the employees let’s recognize that employers have been ghosting job candidates for years and years.  To the tune of 77% of job seekers say that at one time or another they had made contact with an employer, even interviewed with them, and then never heard another word.  If we are really honest about it, we should admit it happens all the time. It might be worth taking a look at whether or not those resumes and applications the company received ever got a response. And while it seems unthinkable, double checking that everyone who interviewed (through a recruiter or internally – text interviews, phone interviews, live interviews all) got a proper response and close off.  We don’t want to be contributing to a 77% no response problem.

Are we known as “Ghosters”?  Do we have emails in our inbox right now that have not been responded to, but need to be?  Do we close the loop with people?  Do we leave people hanging when the expect us to respond?  Our God never ghosts us.  He is always there for us and that should be enough for us to be sure that we try and live up to His ways as an example of who He is.
