day 2278: Practice Time

“…But even more blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.”

An athlete’s “office” is their practice facility. It could be a court, a field, a range, a pool, etc.  They practice for hours upon hours in readiness for when they will compete. Yesterday, I watched a well-known, up and coming Professional golfer stand on a practice range and do nothing else for an hour but chip balls 50 yards, each of them landing in a very small and tight area.  It made me think, we hardly ever practice our work before we go do it. Sure, we will practice a speech or a  big sales presentation, but how about the various meetings we have daily?  Do we carve out time to practice those, before we do them?  Beyond some thinking in our head, probably not. But, we could, if we took the art of practice seriously.

We get our chance, everyday, to practice how God wants us to live our lives for Him.  We can ready ourselves each day for anything that we will face by spending time in his Word and prayer.  Us going into our day without this is  like the athlete who goes into their match without any practice.  Yet, we do it, and then wonder why things are not changing or improving.  God promises blessing to those who hear his Word and then use it to guide their lives and actions.  It begs the question;  What are we practicing?  What are we not?
