day 2130: Mascot Camp

“Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ.”

I started to laugh when I read this article about my Alma Mater’s Mascot Camp. I never really thought about it, but to have a mascot like Purdue Pete, or another sports mascots, it takes more than one person to play the part (at Purdue it is seven) and since they all have to be the same, they have to train to find a way of being synchronized in who they are when they don the costume.  This doesn’t come easy and as you can read, takes a lot of time and training to be a great mascot.  Ironically, we are all mascots for our companies but how much rigor and time do we put into making sure that we are saying the same thing, bringing across the same personality and traits, and representing the company in a way that others can recognize and respect?  Maybe we need more Mascot Camp time!

Why is it that Jesus calls us to spend time in God’s Word?  Is it to just reinforce to ourselves our belief…the more I read it the more I believe it?  I don’t think so.  I think it is that with each and every reading or study we are learning more on who we are to be in the likeness of Jesus.  Yes, each and every time we are in the Bible, in prayer, in fellowship and worship at church, if we are open and willing, we can become more and more like Him. In some ways, we are always in need of more time in Heaven’s mascot camp.
