day 2148: Out Of Sight Preparations

“But, the angel reassured them. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David!”

Many times we pay our attention to the softer elements of new hire orientations like who will the new employee meet, what work they will do in the first few weeks or months, making sure the right paperwork is in place, etc.  But there is another side of orienting a new hire that we might be taking for granted. Someone in the organization is making space and setting up where the new hire will sit, getting them their hardware, setting up network access, showing them where to park, getting them an access badge, etc.  The reason we take it for granted is because it happens out of sight, but some of the most important parts of what we do to make it possible for any employee to work to their full potential happens out of sight.  What else is going on today that if we looked we might be able to pass on a little recognition and thanks for the valuable work that no one sees.

We’ve entered our first week of Advent, or the Christmas season. All across Christianity there will teachings about preparing for the coming of Jesus.  Catholics consider it the beginning of their new year.  However we think about what is coming, what is for sure is we need to pay attention to our own out of sight preparations for the coming of Christ at Christmas.  Think, where will we allow Him to sit in our lives?  What level of access will we give Him to our inner lives?  What communication modes will we set up for Him to speak to us?  And, most importantly, have we made space in our lives for the newness that can be Christ in our lives?
