day 2412: Making The Most Of Time

“Teach us to make the most of our time, so that we may grow in wisdom.”

“Time keeps on slippin’, slippin’, slippin’ into the future”  That’s Steve Miller’s lyrics from the song “Fly Like an Eagle”.  Truer words could not be sung.  Time slips away from us, at the same time we desire to fly higher, faster and stronger.  Time is a fine balance in that productivity and efficiency will always have slips as long as we as humans are involved.  But, that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t attempt to be as efficient and productive as possible. I am huge proponent of using technology and systems to maximize our time.  Technology such as workboard, (who I advise), does just that.  A question we should probably be asking ourselves is why it is that we rely on systems to assist us in measuring and calculating financial metrics, marketing effectiveness, sales productivity, etc. but when it comes to the time to scope, perform and measure our overall “work”, we don’t put that system in place?  Might be that we are okay with time slippin’?

Making the most of our time seems to be the foundation of growing wise.  Makes sense to me as the time I waste, spent without any thought of how it might have rather been invested wisely, has no returns.  We will never, nor should we be expected to be, perfect in our time investing and allocations, but today would be a great day to take a hard look at the coming days, weeks and months and understand where our time could be used better and yes, more wisely. It certainly, couldn’t hurt.
