day 1439: You Are Welcome!

“Cheerfully share your home with those who need a meal or a place to stay.

There was a time that when people traveled on business they would stay at the homes of others who worked in the same company. Patti and I used to do that when we worked at PepsiCo.  We called our house, “The Sharepower Hotel” (Sharepower was the name of of PepsiCo’s employee stock option plan – the first large company in America to give all employees stock option so everyone would feel and act like owners).  We had many fun times and to this day some of our closest friends are people who stayed with us when they were on the road.  We want our employees to bond and be close and rather than contriving seminars and forums, we could encourage and provide incentives for the opening of our homes and apartments for when others are on the road and need a place to stay.  Think of it as an internal company Airbnb!

Whether it be our homes or our offices, we are taught to be welcoming. When we are open with our lives, our possessions, and our time, we are following through on the example that God wants us to be.  It’s hard sometimes to have a welcoming spirit and attitude, but when we do, others are drawn to us.  Try it today and see what happens.
