day 2988: Say It Out Loud

“You always hear me, but I said it out loud for the sake of all these people standing here, so that they will believe you sent me.”

There are many ways to communicate and we know them all.  But, is one a stronger medium than another?  I think it depends on whom and how many people we are desiring to communicate with.  Certainly there are those who are such great writers and they have a channel of distribution that can reach many that their written words might be enough.  However those same great writers might fall prey to their strengths when needing to communicate something one-to-one and they turn to the keyboard or the pen to communicate.  Maybe not for everyone, but for a lot of us, we’d rather send that letter, email or text versus directly speak to someone verbally.  I’d suggest that when it is hard to do and we’d rather deflect to another form of communication, then it probably means we should be saying what needs to said, out loud to the person or the group directly.

Many times when we say something out loud others will be listening and then hold us to what we said, or use our statement to prove or believe what we said.  This can be a really good thing as it can hold us accountable for what comes out of our mouths.  Jesus used the power of speaking out loud when He raised Lazarus from the dead.  As we read in the verse, He didn’t need to speak to God, but instead used His words to reinforce the belief of those around Him.  Maybe, this is also why we should not be afraid to pray out loud with others.  It might be that today there is someone who is doubting or discouraged, who just needs to hear our loud the prayers that we are offering up for them.
