day 2902: Guardians

“Let me put it another way. The law was our guardian until Christ came; it protected us until we could be made right with God through faith”

Here in the U.S. we now have our Guardians of the Galaxy and I am not talking about the next installment in the movie franchise.  The military name of the Space Force service people are “Guardians”.  Some love it, others don’t but I don’t think it matters other than we continue to be reminded that those who we consider “guardians”, because they are human and that the institutions they work within can always be corrupted, seldom live up to our expectations of them being impervious or infallible.  It’s why we more often hear the term as “Guardian Angels” who we expect because they are angels to never let us down. In business we can also fall into a false sense of security when we think we have a mentor, champion or sponsor who acts as if they are a guardian for our careers. But when push comes to shove, they may not be there for us.  It’s a familiar story to me and many others.  So, let’s celebrate the guardians in our lives, but let’s never place our full faith in who turns out after all, to be only people just as we are.

Christ though, He is the guardian of our souls and our eternal life and He asks for our full surrender and devotion so that He may protect us against any and all.  I like that Paul told the Galatians that at one time the law was the only guardian that people could look to to keep them in the good graces of God.  The law protected them, if they followed it.  And then Christ came along and He became the protection, if we followed Him.  Looking for a guardian who is the real deal?  Look no further than Jesus who is right here with us, right now, watching over us.
