day 2732: Complacency Testing

“In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge…”

I was watching the San Francisco 49ers game yesterday afternoon and the Head Coach was concerned going into the game that his players would be complacent.  That concern was rooted in the fact that the team had won a very close and tough game last week and he was worried that human nature would creep in, which would be predictive of complacency. It got me thinking about “Complacency Testing”.  How good would that be if we could test for complacency? If we could then we’d be able to tackle every job to be done with the same 100% of effort each and every time.  Well, it’s a good thought, but we can’t. What we can do is to stop for a moment, gather the team together and be sure that every person looks into their own level of energy and commitment to be sure that they get back up to go into whatever is next with all they have.

In 2 Peter we see that we are to make “every effort”. What does that tell us?  That tells me that being complacent is not what God expects from us in our following of him, serving Him, serving others and going about our work. “Every effort”!  Let’s remember that today in everything that we do.
