day 2447: The Shape Of You

“Hold on to the pattern of wholesome teaching you learned from me—a pattern shaped by the faith and love that you have in Christ Jesus.”

Who knew that there were shapes in the universe we didn’t know about? Check this out from the Journal of Nature Communications: “Our world is made up of elegant shapes — there’s the square, the rectangle, the sphere, the prism and many more. But sometimes, these shapes don’t quite fit nature’s game board. Sometimes, you also need a “scutoid.” This shape — new to math, not to nature — is the form that a group of cells in the body takes in order to pack tightly and efficiently into the tricky curves of organs, scientists reported in a new paper.” Just about the time we think we know it all, we get a new shape. Not unlike our organization structures and designs.  Each time we think know how the work pattern should flow and how work should get done, we have to adapt to a change and make the organization be more fluid. That is, if we want to be nimble and able to respond to the world around us. Those who stay trapped in the same org structure might find themselves left behind.

By the way, this is what a “scutoid” looks like:

We are shaped in God’s image and then as Paul tells us we are to again be shaped by the faith and the love we have for Jesus. We also change and adapt, but the shape of Christ is one which we can bring with us each and every day into our jobs, relationships and all of our efforts. The question we must continue to ask ourselves is are we holding ourselves to His shaping or are we allowing ourselves to be shaped by what we shouldn’t?
