day 2401: Big Numbers

“He piled up huge amounts of grain like sand on the seashore. Finally, he stopped keeping records because there was too much to measure.”

2401 seems like a lot of days.  It is, but not as many or as big of numbers that we have coming.  Did you realize that the device you are reading this on today is nearly exponential in size of storage, processing and memory than when we as consumers could first broadly access the internet (think early 1990’s).  Today we talk in terms of Gigabytes, but it’s time to ready ourselves for the terms and size of the future. Next up on our phones, laptops and tablets:

Terabytes

Petabytes

Exabytes

Zettabytes

Yottabytes

Blank (beyond any size imaginable today)

What does the future hold?  Who knows, other than bigger and bigger numbers!

What’s really cool about God (among many things) is that He is the ultimate manager of big numbers!  Why do I say this?  Because, those who can grasp and handle big numbers are those who can see the big picture, wrap their arms around large data sets and then bring it all back to the size of understanding and individual economics or personal relativity.  McDonald’s used to have billboards on their arches that counted the number of billions of hamburgers sold.  The numbers got so big, no one cared.  Really, all they ever cared about was the hamburger they were eating at the time.  Like God, He cares about the big numbers but most importantly, He cares about the number One…that number being us to Him.  So, go into today, knowing that you count more to God than you might realize.
