day 2293: Calendar Invites

“And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.”

I’ve long tried to figure out the best way to calendar meetings with other people to avoid the going back and forth.  I thought I had it figured out once with a product called Timebridge.  But, the technology didn’t fit strategically with the company that I was able to persuade to purchase it, and it was sold off. And since then, I have tried everything out there.  But while I have been looking, I have noticed that others have been searching as well. In the last six months, I watched more and more people begin to use the tool that has been right in front of them the whole time; the calendar invites of Outlook and Google Calendar. Just by bypassing all the back and forth and going right to an invite that either can be accepted, denied, or modified, more often than not we can get to a mutually agreed upon time quickly and also confirm with each other so that isn’t any misunderstanding.  Neither Outlook or Google support collaborative scheduling, but with a little change in our own behavior the tools right in front of us can work.

I love that God keeps an open invite in front of us at all times.  We don’t have to schedule with Him, nor do we have to worry that He won’t be available when we want to meet.  It’s all on us.  It’s us who are busy.  It’s us who are unavailable or preoccupied. It’s us who can’t find the time.  It’s our lives that have become too busy for Him. Imagine that our manager at work sent us an open invite to have a daily one-on-one with her/him and we never showed up or took advantage of that time to learn and grow. Would we do that?  I think not, so why do we ignore His open invitation?
