A couple of weeks ago a Twitter meme was started where people would post their first seven jobs.  Lots of CEOs, celebrities, and others did so.  I did it too and it was fun to remember those first seven and what I learned from those early laboring jobs.  It made me remember that in our earliest of work days what we don’t really even know about work.  I was discussing this with a guy who was cutting my hair last week and he described one of his first jobs as a busboy when he was 13 years old.  After two weeks of work, he and his friend, who was also working with him, were pulled into the General Manager’s office and accused of stealing the waitresses’ tips. He told me that he and his friend looked at the GM and asked him, “What is a tip?”.  The GM incredulously explained and asked if they had been taking money off the dirty tables.  They both enthusiastically said, “Yes!  It’s really cool, people just leave money on their table and since we were told that we were to take everything off the table, we’ve been taking the money too and we think we’ve got a couple of hundred dollars”.  He went on to tell me that the GM and the waitresses who were standing outside of the doorway all wanted to be mad but instead couldn’t do anything other than laugh.  He said that they didn’t get paid for a couple of weeks to try and make everything even.  What we think we know about work and our jobs, we don’t always know, and we should all be reminded that we need to not forget that we should overdo training and explanations about what it is that a job is all about.  It just might keep the tips on the table.

What does God tell us about what our Kingdom work is to be for Him?  As we think about the jobs we will do today, where do we have the opportunity to place His work at the top of our agenda?  It might be that today we will have more than one opportunity to open ourselves up to share what God has done in our lives. It really does come down to what is job one?
