day 1396: 10,000 Reasons

While I am on a pilgrimage walk on the Camino de Santiago (St. James Way) in Spain, I have asked some of the most committed and courageous faith-driven business leaders I know to guest contribute to Purposed worKING.  Enjoy! – Rusty

“You’re rich in love, and You’re slow to anger, Your name is great, and Your heart is kind, For all Your goodness I will keep on singing, 10,000 reasons for my heart to find.”

Not sure how many of you have heard Matt Redman’s awesome song, “10,000 Reasons (Bless The Lord)“, but I can’t seem to get away from the song. My church in Geneva, Illinois sings it quite often and whenever I put some Christian radio on (which is pretty rare), the song seems to find its way into the playlist.   When I hear the song, it immediately puts me at peace and I can’t help but sing it aloud.  Not exactly sure why…just seems to be a simple song that makes a lot of sense to me personally.

This week during our worship service, our church band started playing it again and it really got me thinking.  I have so much to be thankful for and I know I don’t do the best job thanking Him for his generosity.  I think from time to time all of us find ourselves complaining about something in our work life that, in the grand scheme of things, really doesn’t matter.

Think about different ways YOU can be rich in love or slow to anger.  Have you appreciated all of His Goodness that He has blessed you with?

Click on this YouTube link to listen to Matt sing or download the song via your favorite music source.  Give some thought to the lyrics.  What are 3 reasons that you need to give thanks for?

Matt Redman’s Lyrics:

Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul
Worship His holy name
Sing like never before
O my soul
I’ll worship Your holy name

The sun comes up, it’s a new day dawning
It’s time to sing Your song again
Whatever may pass, and whatever lies before me
Let me be singing when the evening comes

[Chorus]
Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul
Worship His holy name
Sing like never before
O my soul
I’ll worship Your holy name

You’re rich in love, and You’re slow to anger
Your name is great, and Your heart is kind
For all Your goodness I will keep on singing
Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find

[Chorus]
Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul
Worship His holy name
Sing like never before
O my soul
I’ll worship Your holy name

And on that day when my strength is failing
The end draws near and my time has come
Still my soul will sing Your praise unending
Ten thousand years and then forevermore

[Chorus x2]
Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul
Worship His holy name
Sing like never before
O my soul
I’ll worship Your holy name

Jesus, I’ll worship Your holy name
Lord, I’ll worship Your holy name

Sing like never before
O my soul
I’ll worship Your holy name
Jesus, I’ll worship Your holy name
I’ll worship Your holy name
