day 1546: Mapping It Out…Ahead of Time

“They don’t know where to find peace or what it means to be just and good. They have mapped out crooked roads, and no one who follows them knows a moment’s peace.”

I always wondered, “Why does Google go to the extreme expense and effort that they do to create Google maps with street view?”  I mean it is cool and all, but it’s free and Google doesn’t advertise or cross promote on their maps.  So, other than the cool consumer factor and people coming to Google (which as of now, they are number two behind Facebook in amount of time spent monthly on the internet), why else would they do this?  It dawned on me while reading an article on Artificial Intelligence that all of this time they have been mapping the streets around the world in anticipation and readiness for their Self-Driving Cars.  Now it all makes sense.  They not only have maps that are down to the foot, or even inch, they also have visible recognition points captured that the self-driving car can recognize and use as pointers, barriers, markers and even start and stop points.  When I think of it that way, it makes one wonder who else thinks this far ahead to be ready for the future?  It’s hard to fathom, but as this example shows, it can be done. Do we have anything in our business strategy that looks so far out that we have to begin to build our maps now?

Are we mapping out the life that God desires for us?  Even a harder question; are we readying ourselves for where God wants to use us in the future?  Have we prepared ourselves to be open, ready and available to move into His map for us? We can do so today by drawing closer to Him through the readying and studying of His Word, prayer, church and fellowship.  And, we can make a move in the right direction today, right now, just by asking Him to lead and guide us through today’s work challenges to keep mapping out His will for us.
