day 2097: Crying Wolf

“So if someone tells you, ‘Look, the Messiah is out in the desert,’ don’t bother to go and look. Or, ‘Look, he is hiding here,’ don’t believe it! For as the lightning flashes in the east and shines to the west, so it will be when the Son of Man comes.”

There is a currency in crisis as when someone starts spinning it, it creates action. We all know people who love to create a crisis in order to receive attention and get something going. Unfortunately, they get away with “crying wolf” far too often and for far too long. But, in a heightened state of caution or fear, it becomes perceived better to react than ignore. And so, over and over we expend our organizational and individual energy and emotions in the pursuit of understanding whether or not the crisis is real.  We need to challenge ourselves and the people around to not use crisis as a catalyst too often, or better, not at all. Too many crisis’ and we become deaf to the alarm and numb to what we do need to react. Let’s save the crisis’ cries for when there really is a present and dangerous wolf.

We know from the Bible whom it is that uses crisis and its outcomes to His advances. And no, it is not God. Our God is just the opposite of crisis. He is peace and understanding. If we are living with a crisis today that just doesn’t seem like it will ever go away, then do what needs to be done and displace it with the power of relying on Him to get us through it. No other force is better at resolving crisis than Christ.
