day 3K69: Giving Away Time

Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered— how fleeting my life is.”
It is said that time is the one thing we all equally share and no one gets more than anyone else of it each day.  We can’t buy more of it, or sell it.  But maybe we can give it away.  I read the story of the Italian workers who all chipped in and gave up their earned vacation days so that an ill and ailing co-worker who was just two years away from a pensionable retirement could stay on the payroll until retirement day was to come. I’ve heard of others doing the same thing but not to this remarkable extent.  The generosity of giving away one’s time is quite a remarkable sacrifice.

Consider what we would do if we were asked to give the sacrifice of our time left to live so that others could live eternally? That is what Jesus has done for us.  At the prime of His earthly life He shortened His time so that He could give it to us.  As we are thinking about and planning our 2022 are we going to use our precious gift of time as He has it planned it for us?
