day 3K64: An Unexpected Affirmation

“So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.”

I like to send notes to let people know how much they mean to me and that I am grateful for their friendship.  This past week I received a note back that said, “The best Christmas gift to wake up to…an unexpected affirmation of friendship.”  This response reminded me of the power of spontaneous, unexpected recognition.  When someone who works for us receives recognition that comes from no other place, other than the heart, it can have a profound impact. Yes, an unexpected affirmation could make a difference beyond what we would imagine.

I was the weekend speaker at my church, CornerstoneSF, this past Sunday. After the service streamed, I received a number of unexpected affirmations, which really meant a lot to me.  Paul was also good at giving encouragements and unexpected affirmations.  We can see these throughout his letters.  There is not only a great power in these affirmations but also the setting of an example that motivates others to do the same.
