“Save me! Rescue me from the power of my enemies. Their mouths are full of lies; they swear to tell the truth, but they lie instead.”

Ever been in a meeting or a setting when someone states something that is not the truth?  It happens so often that it’s not just about the truth, it’s about what are we going to do about it right there in the moment?  Our minds race trying to figure out if it best to confront the false statement or not at this time? Do we address it later with the person or let the person go ahead and then circle back to those in the room and be sure that no one was misled or makes a decision based on what they heard? And the wider the gap in power between the person who made the statement of untruth and the person who has to make the correction, the harder it is for the real truth to come through.  Add a crowd of people, or the press and then see how awkward the moment becomes. King David modeled for us what we are to first and foremost do when we are confronted with those around us who don’t tell the truth. Like in so many parts of our lives when we are confused, challenged, attacked or lost, we are to turn to God to lead us through that moment.  I’d like to be able to say that in every moment we don’t hear the truth being spoken that we should speak up right there, in the moment, but that may not be the best course of action at that time.  But, I can say that we are not to ignore it when the truth is not told. We are to wrestle with it and be sure that we do play a part in restoring and defending the truth.  And, we are to NEVER be one who is complicit in distorting the truth or simply not telling the truth.
