day 2390: The Balancing Beam

“My life constantly hangs in the balance, but I will not stop obeying your instructions.”

It sure feels many times that we are walking a balance beam in life and at work.  I coach a CEO who is right now working on the next round of funding and the balance beam is between revenue and expenses and the loss of balance is cash flow.  In our coaching I reminded him that this is the balance of all businesses.  Each of us walk a business balance beam daily.  And it’s nothing new.  See this quite from Euripides: “The best and safest thing is to keep a balance in your life, acknowledge the great powers around us and in us. If you can do that, and live that way, you are really a wise person.”  We want to be wise in our business, so the attention to balance all around us can be the difference between being wise and doing something foolish.

King David understood that our entire lives hang in the balance and the only way forward is to continue to follow what God teaches us and calls us to do.  If today it feels as though we might be teetering, let’s not be afraid to drop to our knees to regain the balance we need.
