day 2267: Keeping Score

“As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.”

While on a conference call last week, I heard someone say, “If you aren’t keeping score, then you are just practicing.” That sounds like a good business axiom. Careful though, this approach doesn’t come without a strong dose of accountability.  But, without accountability, what really gets done?  So, it is smart to be providing scorecards in as much as we can.  Surely, there are parts of any organization that is only missing a scorecard, with a score, only because someone hasn’t taken the time to decide what to measure and get started.

I love that God doesn’t keep scores with our failures.  We are free to practice our faith in our lives without a scorecard being kept.  However, this demands we commit, step up and keep ourselves accountable to our beliefs and walk with God. While God doesn’t keep a score, it doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t work with others to provide feedback to us on what they observe and where we can improve.  We are taught that iron sharpens iron, so maybe we need some more sharpening and iron in our lives.
