day 2163: The Anxiety of New Goals

“Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.”

The New Year and the new quarter can be exciting because in front of us sit the goals and objectives we have been given to achieve and hopefully exceed.  But, goals and objectives can be like New Year’s Resolutions in that they are exciting for the first week and then after that the newness begins to fade and what was exciting can begin to look burdensome.  Will I be able to get all of this done?  What if I fall behind?  How much margin for error, the unknown, even sickness have I left myself?  Have I over committed again?  These are all questions of doubt that can creep into our minds and then begin to weigh us down.  Goals can be achieved, if we are willing to break them down, measure our efforts and track our progress.  Once we begin to do that, we will find that the anxiety of new goals can be put behind us.

When I bring my anxieties and loads of worries to God, I can sometimes hear Him say back to me, “How come it’s taken you so long to give me those?”  That is what His Word promises us.  So, whatever the worry, whatever the anxiety, even the concerns about whether or not we can achieve what work we have been given this year, He is ready, willing and waiting to take them from us.
