day 2887: What Stands

“And all the trees will know that it is I, the Lord, who cuts the tall tree down and makes the short tree grow tall. It is I who makes the green tree wither and gives the dead tree new life. I, the Lord, have spoken, and I will do what I said!”

Decisions are hard to accept. So many of the decisions that affect us are made by someone else and we feel like we have no input into these so our only real choice is to accept what has been given to us and let it stand, or to fight back with disagreement and even protest.  And, I’m not talking about politics and societal issues, I’m talking about what happens everyday at work. I talked to someone recently who was having a really hard time with a decision that had been made and was debating what to do; fight, flight or just let it stand.  After talking it all out, it came down that the decision that was made was definitely not well thought out, but at the end of the day, it wasn’t something that was to cause lasting damage or resentment, so the decision about the decision, was to accept it and move on.  And, so much of what is decided for us by others, can be okay if we only let it play out and don’t overreact.

Our God is the God of decisions.  I really love this verse from Ezekiel to know that He has it all in control. This verse also speaks to me that He is the God of justice and fairness and will even things out as they need to be. He knows what should stand and what shouldn’t.  If we lived out our lives in this place of understanding and accepting, we’d be way better for ourselves and others.
