day 1473: What We Now Know

“And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.”

I recently read some ground shaking statistics . A month ago yesterday, a 6.0 earthquake hit Napa, California.  A few days later, Jawbone, the maker of the wearable computer called “Up”, released these statistics.  At 3:21AM PST this happened:

  • 93% of the people wearing their “Up” in Napa and Sonoma counties, woke up immediately
  • 50% living in San Francisco and Oakland woke up
  • It was a negligible % who woke up in San Jose

Why is this cool?  It’s because we’ve never been able to collect this kind of data before that is generated through human beings.  This is the power of big data and a small example of what we will be able to measure and know as the internet of things becomes reality.  It’s an exciting time and we need to be thinking ahead to be sure that we are capitalizing on the technology and information to come.

If we are amazed at what technology will help us know, then we should be astounded at what God knows about us already and that He cares to the level He does for each of us.  We might be going through something in our work right now that is making us feel as though we are alone or just not known.  These are the times that we need to know that God knows all and cares so dearly.  Let’s never forget that He is there with us, every moment of the day.
