day 2004: Fear of Missing Out

“And he will reign over Israel forever; his Kingdom will never end!”

I’ve written before on the power of the fear of missing out (FOMO). FOMO is used every day in marketing and advertising and the psychology is persuasive. There will be people lined up on Thursday and in the wee hours of Friday, being driven by FOMO. The deals aren’t really that good, but the thought of not getting one of those deals that someone else might drives so many people that retailers have a hay day! There is nothing sinister or evil about FOMO, so what do we have in our business that could drive someone to camp out overnight?

I wish I had more FOMO in my spiritual life. What I mean by that is that I sometimes need to be reminded that this life is short and if life is really about being prepared to meet God, then each and every day should be more and more about getting to know Him. I know that God is not grading on a curve and that when we do meet Him that we will be perfect in His eyes, but that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t want to know as much about Him now as we can. So yes, I want more FOMO in my spiritual journey because I don’t want to miss out on what blessings and abundance that this life can bring if, I don’t waste a single day.
