day 1456: Thanks First

“Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks to God, and distributed them to the people. Afterward he did the same with the fish. And they all ate as much as they wanted.”

When was the last time we heard, “I want to thank you before I even ask”, or, “Before we do this, let’s say thank you to our customers who are going to buy or use this product”?  Funny, that we don’t think of giving thanks at work until after the work is completed and completed to our full satisfaction.  But, when we really appreciate something, we are more than willing to give many thanks ahead of time.  We need to do more of this.  If we started every work conversation with first,  “Thank You”, then think how powerful and moving the rest of the conversation could be.  Try it out and let me know how it goes.

Before Jesus fed the 5000 and the miracle occurred he gave thanks for those few fish and loaves and for what was going to happen.  He thanked the Father ahead of time.  We bless and say our thanks for our food before we eat it as it sits in front of us ready to eat.  That is good, but think that true faith is looking at an empty plate and thanking God for what is to come.  We can start thanking God in advance for what He is going to do in our careers and jobs and then what happens can only be what He desires for us, and we can thank Him again.
