day 2044: Super Bowl Week – Building to Super

“Give us this day our daily bread.

The Super Bowl wasn’t always as monumental as it is today.  Check out these pictures of a newspaper I had kept in one of my childhood “memory boxes ” (I was a Dolphin fan back then) :

As you can see, it was once an important event, but not “quite yet a Super” event.  I chuckled when I saw that the pregame telecast would last 30 minutes.  Traditions that are paid attention to and built upon can go from tiny to huge.  And yes, they can become the event or thing that everyone waits all year-long to attend or be a part of.  Yes, we can create, “super” from something small that we are doing today.

We are taught to pray in this way; “Give us this day our daily bread”.  Have you wondered why we weren’t told to pray, “Give us all the food we need”.  Or, “Give us on this Sabbath the food we need for the week”.  Or, “When we run out, replenish our pantry”.  No, what Jesus modeled for us was that we aren’t praying for the supermarket trip, we are praying for our needs for the day (not our wants) and we are praying for this each and every day.  What I also take from this direction is that He wouldn’t have instructed us to pray this way, if this wasn’t a prayer that He and the Father intend to answer, each and every day.  When God instructs us to lean this much on Him, you can be assured that He is ready to be supernatural in His fulfilling of those prayers.  So yes, we can, with God, build to His “super”.

PS:  Enjoy the game on Sunday!
